SO PYAY

Life Cycle Engineer

So Pyay worked as an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) consultant in Myanmar from 2019 to 2021. In his previous position, he significantly contributed to assessment and mitigation of environmental and social impacts in the development of gas engine power plant, upstream oil and gas sector, resettlement and relocation programs. He was also a practitioner of ISO EMS 14001:2015 and IFC EHS guidelines to develop the management plans for ESIA projects. He recently finished his training on implementing GRI reporting standards at GRI Academy as well.

On an academic background, he holds a bachelor degree in civil engineering from Technological University Mandalay (Myanmar) and a research-based master's degree in environmental engineering from Prince of Songkla University (Thailand). During his master's program, he conducted research focusing on the life cycle assessment of intermediate rubber products in Thailand. His research was the first attempt to analyze the environmental impacts of rubber products by using the EU Product Environmental Footprint guidelines and finally published in a peer-reviewed international journal. Currently, he has been pursuing a double degree program at Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia) for master of business administration and University of Agder (Norway) for master of science in sustainability management.

Based on his multidisciplinary academic and professional experiences, he truly believes that businesses should be doing well in terms of financial profit and doing good in terms of social and environmental responsibilities. Being a life cycle engineer at PXP Sustainability, his dream is to help businesses to identify, mitigate and manage negative externalities including social and environmental consequences throughout the supply chains. In doing so, businesses are more likely to avert risks and to become future-proof by creating values not just for their shareholders, but for society.
